Natural disasters are bad events
caused by nature, such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, hurricanes, and volcanic
eruptions. Some natural disasters are seasonal and usually happen unexpectedly,
so it is hard for scientists to predict when they might occur. Natural
disasters have many harmful effects on the livelihoods of the population in the
area where they strike. For example, flooding near Tonle Sap in Cambodia
destroys the houses, livestock, and crops of the farmers. Moreover, children
are not able to go to school because the roads and school grounds are covered
by water, so they have no choice but to wait till the water levels drop to
resume their normal lives again. People who have experienced a natural disaster
might feel shocked, distressed, or lost. Therefore, they need our help to get
them through the hard time.
